Feeding & Sleeping
Baby goes through periods when her sleep pattern is regular for a few days with good sleep periods at night. Then her sleep changes. She may not nap as long or she may even miss a nap. When should she fall into a pattern?
Hello Beth, I do not know your baby (or how old)/family so it is hard for me to give you specific advice but remember that we really need to shift our thoughts away from calling longer stretches 'good' and waking up needing something as 'bad'. Your little one wakes at night - it sounds like sometimes she needs just a bit of an extra snuggle/feed/time with you, and sometimes she is happy to go back to sleep on her own. Know that there are also times (re:the nap question) where she might be working on a new milestone or uncomfortable and this can lead to some shorter naps. All is pretty normal and to be expected in the first year.

Remember that you can't force anyone to sleep. When your little one is tired, we want to put her down. If bedtime is really late (for you and your family), you may want to adjust naps or consider an earlier wake time to fit everything in. There are no 'should', just what works best for you and your baby.
